Critical Areas Survey

Prerequisite for building permit

Wetlands, critical slopes, and critters

This is typically a requirement from the county planning department before plans are submitted.  An inspector will come to your plot and look for things such as wetlands, critical slopes, endangered species living there, etc.  It is worth doing your own assessment prior to the official inspection to avoid nasty surprises.  The critical areas inspector may well put colored ribbons on trees in order to help you identify where the various setbacks will extend to.  Leave these ribbons in place throughout the complete house building process.
